Dementia & Alzheimer’s Care
Dementia is an umbrella term for a variety of brain disorders. Symptoms include loss of memory, judgment and reasoning, and changes in mood and behaviour.
Most people with dementia want to live in their own homes for as long as possible. Our goal is to help seniors accomplish this by creating innovative and customized care plans to enhance the quality of life with those living with dementia.
We teach our caregivers in-depth knowledge and understanding of dementia and provide extra training outside of their formal training on techniques to communicate effectively with someone with dementia. Through the innovative evidence-based, person-centred education of DementiaAbility, our recreation therapist who is certified in the dementiaAbility method creates a customized care model for each client with dementia using meaningful activities and specific communication protocols.
We also provide training on behavior changes in dementia and strategies to respond appropriately to these changes and support families and work with them effectively to provide quality care to clients with dementia residing in the home setting.
Our Dementia Care Specific Services Include:
- Recreation therapy: Tailored activities designed to help the client live each day with meaning, purpose, high self-esteem, independence, love, a sense of belonging and joy.
- Medication management: Medication reminders and assistance with administering medications
- Personal care services: Help with bathing, dressing, toileting, eating, exercising or other personal care
- Homemaker services: Help with housekeeping, shopping or meal preparation
- Transportation services: Transport to medical and personal appointments
- Monitoring care: Adapting the level of care as the disease progresses and updating the care plan as required
